Social Work Department hosts 4th annual policy conference

The virtual event Sept. 25 will feature state and local mental-health leaders speaking on the impact of COVID-19.

Roadrunners are invited to join the Metropolitan State University of Denver Department of Social Work for the 4th Annual Social Work Policy Conference: COVID-19 Impact on Our Communities.

The event will feature state and local mental-health experts discussing the impact of COVID-19. The webinar is an opportunity for students, faculty and community members to connect virtually with experts making important decisions in response to COVID-19 on a local, state and national level.

Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock will deliver the welcoming address, and the event will be moderated by Charles Smith, Ph.D., regional administrator for the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Region VIII.

Presenters include Capt. Jacqueline Rodrigue, Health Resources and Services Administration; the Honorable Brian Bowen, Adams County Veterans Court; Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon, Ph.D, MSW, Sewall Child Development Center; and Lacy Brown, Archuleta County Department of Human Services.

Participation in the training will count for two hours of continuing-education credits approved by the Colorado chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Participation also counts toward the requirements of the Department of Regulatory Agencies’ 40 hours of Continuing Professional Development for Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Social Workers as well as toward Child Welfare Training System recertification hours.
