As Metropolitan State University of Denver gears up for a new academic year, please remind students to take advantage of the following academic supports.
Tutoring Center:
The Tutoring Center supports all MSU Denver students by offering free one-on-one and group tutoring sessions in a variety of subjects. The center is not just for students having difficulties with course material but is also for students who want to excel academically. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tutoring Center will operate 100% remotely through the fall semester, using Microsoft Teams. For instructions on how to access services through Microsoft Teams as well as availability and the schedule of courses available for tutoring, please visit www.msudenver.edu/tutoring.
In addition to remote tutoring, the Tutoring Center offers 24/7 online tutoring to all students free of charge. Please contact 303-615-1919 or tutoring@msudenver.edu for further questions or information.
Writing Center:
The Writing Center supports all MSU Denver students and community members in their writing. Staff members work one-on-one with writers at every step of their writing process, from understanding assignments to generating ideas to fleshing out a draft to revising and editing. Students don’t even need to have anything written to begin the process, as staff members are experts at helping students get from a blank page to words and ideas. For fall, all Writing Center services will be delivered remotely. The center offers online synchronous, online asynchronous and phone appointments. To make an appointment or learn more, visit the Writing Center website.
Supplemental Instruction:
The Supplemental Instruction program supports students enrolled in traditionally difficult courses by offering free, regularly scheduled group-study SI Sessions facilitated by SI Leaders (current students who have previously succeeded in the course). SI Sessions are welcoming, inclusive, fun and informal. Students participate in collaborative activities that help deepen understanding of the course content while developing effective learning and study strategies. More than 500 Roadrunners participated in SI Sessions this past spring and earned half a letter grade higher than their peers enrolled in the same courses and sections. For the fall semester, the SI program will offer all SI Sessions online. Students can view the list of SI-supported courses, learn how to participate and find more information on the SI Session Schedule website.
