The Metropolitan State University of Denver Theatre and Dance Department invites any interested MSU Denver students to attend auditions for the entirely online, all-new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The show was developed by Jeff Parker, associate professor, Theatre, and director of voice and text for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Parker’s gender-fluid adaptation uses SnapCamera filters, virtual backgrounds and a combination of digital and practical design in an exciting new medium that will be presented 100% virtually. Student performers will be trained in professional Shakespearean performance techniques by MSU Denver faculty and professional guest artists, who will be “Zoom-ing” in from across the country.
Students interested in working the digital boards, learning more about Shakespeare and increasing their communicative and collaborative abilities are invited to audition. Students can also visit the MSU Denver Department of Theatre and Dance website to learn more about “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as well as the many other productions offered throughout the year.
Students can locate audition information, sign up for an audition time, download a copy of the script and learn more about the requirements for participating in an MSU Denver Theatre and Dance production online.
Auditions will be held over Zoom Aug. 19-20, and rehearsals begin Aug. 21. Performers will rehearse four to five days a week until the show’s grand opening in October.
If you have questions about “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” or any of our upcoming offerings this academic year, please email Megan Euler, production manager, Parker or co-director Carrie Colton.
