New partnership to support homeownership

MSU Denver is working with Landed to connect employees to homebuying resources.

April 27, 2020

City of Denver at night.Metropolitan State University of Denver is pleased to announce a new employee benefit that will support employees in managing one of the biggest challenges they face outside of work – finding affordable housing within a reasonable commuting distance of campus.

Last week, the University launched a partnership with Landed, a company that helps employees in education purchase homes by providing a down-payment program and connecting them to homebuying resources.

Landed’s down-payment program invests alongside employees in education to help them reach a 20% down payment. Landed’s funds, up to $120,000 per household, come in the form of an equity investment, meaning that homebuyers share in a portion of the gain (or loss, if any) in the value of the home once the partnership is ended – typically by sale or refinance.

Landed also offers free homebuying services to employees in education, including building a supportive homebuying team to help employees navigate homebuying options, providing competitive property reviews and delivering homebuying educational materials to help employees prepare for homeownership.

Landed’s work in Colorado began in 2018 with K-12 educators through partnerships with Denver Public Schools, the Boulder Valley School District, Aurora Public Schools and many more. So far, more than 70 Denver- and Boulder-area educators have purchased a home with Landed’s down-payment program and more than 1,000 have received homebuyer resources and educational materials, making Colorado Landed’s most successful region outside California.

Now, Landed is expanding to offer the same homebuying programs to MSU Denver employees. Landed’s down-payment program is open to all faculty, staff and administrators who have worked at MSU Denver or another public educational institution for at least two years and is available immediately. You do not need to be a first-time homebuyer to participate.

MSU Denver employees can use Landed’s down-payment program to purchase a primary residence in the developed, urban and near-urban regions of any of the following counties: Denver, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Adams, Douglas, Boulder, Broomfield, Elbert, Park, Clear Creek and Gilpin. Landed anticipates opening its down-payment program in El Paso County by fall.
