MSU Denver amends Withdraw/Incomplete policies for current semester

In recognition of the impacts of COVID-19, the deadline for withdrawing from a full-term course will be extended to May 15.

April 1, 2020

Outside of JSSB and AES Building.In response to the substantial impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the ability of students to successfully complete coursework – and in recognition of the rapidly changing situation on societal and individual levels – Metropolitan State University of Denver will implement two academic-policy changes for the current semester:

  1. The deadline for withdrawing from a course will be extended to May 15 for full-term courses. As the refund deadline has already passed, refunds will not be offered for students withdrawing from a course throughout the remainder of the semester.
  2. Students may request an Incomplete in a course at any time between April 3 and May 15. Students should consult with their instructor to ensure that they understand all policies and procedures that apply to the Incomplete. Incompletes are not appropriate for all courses, and requesting an Incomplete is not an automatic process; it is at the discretion of the faculty member whether to grant an Incomplete.

To be eligible for an Incomplete in a course, a student must:

  1. Have a passing grade in the course at the time the Incomplete is requested;
  2. Have completed at least 75% of the coursework and/or course contact hours at the time the Incomplete is requested.

Departments may have additional standards and/or criteria. Students should consult with their instructor and department to determine additional requirements. In addition, the student should consult the 2019-20 undergraduate or graduate catalog to review policies and procedures pertaining to the Incomplete. An Incomplete grade can have an impact on financial-aid eligibility. Students are given a maximum of one calendar year to complete the course before it defaults to an “F” grade.

Please note that these modifications do not alter the procedures for withdrawing from a course or requesting an Incomplete. Rather, the only thing changed by these modifications is deadlines for such actions.
