Gov. Jared Polis last month announced the appointment of Emily Renwick Garnett to the Metropolitan State University of Denver Board of Trustees.
Renwick Garnett is an attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where she focuses on protecting investors and U.S. capital markets. Prior to joining the SEC, she was in private practice where her clients included public and private educational institutions. She worked with these clients to set appropriate policies and procedures to ensure that the organizations put in place model consumer-protection and regulatory-compliance standards.
Renwick Garnett is also passionate about educational policy and civic leadership. She has served nonprofit organizations in various capacities, including co-chairing the board of the Center on Colfax. She believes that communities are grounded in high-quality and accessible educational opportunities.
“Emily’s depth of experience in law and policy, together with her commitment to service and leadership, makes her an excellent addition to the board,” said President Janine Davidson, Ph.D. “She’s also an avid learner with an impressive list of educational and professional accomplishments who will be a wonderful example to our motivated and high-achieving students.”
Renwick Garnett received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also holds Juris Doctor degrees from the Catholic University of America and the University of Colorado. In her free time, Renwick Garnett enjoys spending time with her children and husband, Alec; running; listening to podcasts; and baking.
She will serve through Dec. 31, 2023, replacing former Trustee Elaine Berman. She joins Board Chair Barbara Grogan, Vice Chair Russell Noles, continuing members Marissa Molina and James Mulligan, and recently appointed members Albus Brooks, Mario M. Carrera, Kristin Hultquist and Michael Johnston.
