Provost search meeting in progress.Metropolitan State University of Denver is pausing the search for the University’s next provost. Given the uncertainty in the economic environment, President Janine Davidson, Ph.D., and University leaders have elected to continue the search at a later date.

Davidson has appointed Bill Henry, Ph.D., vice provost for faculty affairs, to serve as interim provost until the University is better positioned to identify a final candidate. Henry and Provost Vicki Golich, Ph.D., will plan for that transition before Golich retires this spring.

“I’m so grateful to the search-committee members for their hard work and dedication to this process,” Davidson said. “It taught us a great deal about who we are looking for and how best to proceed once the search picks up again.”

Davidson also applauded Roadrunners for their engagement in the search.

“It is remarkable how many members of our University community turned out for the open forums, which underscores the importance of this position at our institution,” she added. “The thoughtful input I heard throughout this process helped me tremendously as I weighed my final decision.”

While MSU Denver will not advance any of the four candidates originally interviewed, the process will continue when the economy and campus operations restabilize.

Recognizing that the process is time-consuming — and often difficult to balance with regular professional and academic responsibilities — Davidson will appoint new committee members for the next iteration of the search. That search may begin as early as the fall semester. More details will be available as they are determined. Please continue to follow the Early Bird and the provost-search webpage for updates.
