How to back up a Blackboard course
By Alex McDaniel, Emily Van Buren, Chelsea Posey and Nicholas Ogg

As you may have heard, Metropolitan State University of Denver will retire Blackboard and Bb Collaborate on Jan. 31.
To help with a smooth retirement of these systems, all faculty members who would like to back up their Blackboard course can do so with the Export/Archive Course feature in Blackboard. This feature allows you to download a zip file of the course that you can later import into Canvas if desired.
Best practices
- Export everything (if you think you might ever need it, export it).
- Do not open the zip file (opening will corrupt the file and make it unusable).
- Save the file in an easy-to-remember location.
Let’s walk through it together
Additional information about backing up Bb Collaborate is available on the “Move, Migrate & Archive Courses and Files” page on the msudenver.edu/ready support site.
