How to collaborate across the discipline divide

Faculty members are invited to attend a Nov. 10 lunch-and-learn event hosted by the Interprofessional Education Committee.

Faculty members are invited to attend a virtual lunch-and-learn event hosted by the College of Health and Applied Sciences’ Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee. The event aims to help faculty learn more about collaboration with colleagues from other departments and disciplines. An overview and panel discussion will highlight the benefits that interprofessional education provides to students.

This event is inspired by the outcomes of a recent IPE survey, conducted in April and completed by 233 full- and part-time faculty members within the then-College of Professional Studies and Health Institute. The survey sought to understand interest in and how Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty members engage in interprofessional collaborations. Results showed there is a high appreciation for IPE and desire among faculty members to create these experiences for their students. While some faculty members collaborate proficiently, others don’t know where to start or how to find the time. The survey findings will be used to improve opportunities for rich student learning opportunities, starting with this event.

• Becky Nemec, MSN, R.N., associate professor, Nursing

The committee will develop future activities and events to help faculty learn about and develop more collaborative opportunities for students. This will include “matchmaking” but also developing structural suggestions for adjustments to current processes. Attend the virtual lunch-and-learn event to learn more.
