Department of Athletics stays active in service

Staff members and student-athletes help children in need, volunteer with seniors and drive important conversations.

Student-athletes are some of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s greatest community ambassadors. As the COVID-19 pandemic upended spring and fall sports, students and staff – led by new Director of Athletics Todd Thurman – instead focused on practicing good citizenship. MSU Denver Athletics nets $3,290 for hygiene kits

MSU Denver Athletics recently built hygiene kits in a partnership with local nonprofit organization A Precious Child. With help from the MSU Denver community and MSU Denver athletic supporters, who donated products and funding, the Roadrunners were able to pack 187 kits while raising an overall total of $3,290 worth of products.

White confronts racism, pandemic in breakthrough year

When the pandemic took volleyball player and star student Kayla White off the court, she channeled her energy into co-organizing a Black Lives Matter march in her hometown of Montgomery, Alabama.
