Language Barriers and Bridges: a multidisciplinary panel discussion exploring the problems and pleasures associated with linguistic diversity

Join the Denver Project for Humanistic Inquiry to discuss the problems and pleasures associated with living in a multilingual world. Faculty members from the Departments of Anthropology, Modern Languages, Philosophy, English and Linguistics will discuss language biases, the challenge of translation and more.

Environmental Protectors in the Indigenous Southwest

Please join the Native Indigenous Student Alliance with collaboration and support from the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion in a conversation with Diné scholars and media makers Angelo Baca and Teresa Montoya as they discuss their research and activism around environmental contamination and sacred-sites protection in the Indigenous Southwest. Their dialogue will highlight their collaborative media work and reflections on their academic pathways in higher education.

UndocuMonologues

Motus Theater’s undocumented monologists invite you into their homes to share autobiographical stories about their dreams, hopes and fears. Autobiographical monologues by Motus UndocuMonologists Cristian Solano-Cordova, Tania Chairez and Alejandro Fuentes-Mena written in collaboration with Motus Theater Artistic Director Kirsten Wilson. Performance presented by Motus Theater – creator of UndocuAmerica, Women of Resolution, Rocks Karma Arrows and the Shoebox Stories Podcast. Each monologue is followed by a musical response from the vocal ensemble Storytellers 303, which fuses the power of song and narrative to build community.

During this event, participants will also hear from student artists whose work is featured in the new Immigrant Art Journal and from the student organization RISE, which provides a community for DACA, undocumented, refugee and immigrant students.

The event is sponsored by the Immigrant Services Program at Metropolitan State University of Denver, an academic and social-support program that aims to increase enrollment, retention and graduation of undocumented, DACA, immigrant and refugee students.

Meditation with Rob Ingle

Please join us Friday for an hour of stress relief and relaxation led by Rob Ingle, learning and development specialist, Human Resources. This is the last session in our wellness series. 

Ingle has taught meditation, breathing techniques and several styles of yoga for 14 years and is currently teaching grief yoga for hospice. He is committed to providing support for MSU Denver’s faculty, staff and students through life coaching and techniques to let go of stress and maintain being grounded. No registration or RSVP necessary.

In celebration of Native American and Indigenous Heritage Month, please join the Native Indigenous Student Alliance and the Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy in a discussion about the Indigenous film “Blood Quantum.” Please register by Thursday to receive the movie code. Upon receiving the code, you may watch the film at your own convenience and then join GITA and NISA for a discussion about the film Tuesday.

MSU Denver Student Exhibition 

The MSU Denver Student Exhibition will showcase the work of the MSU Denver Department of Art’s talented student artists and designers. Students graduating in the spring and fall 2020 semesters were invited to take part in this exhibition at the Center for Visual Art to provide them with valuable exposure to the broader local arts community and professional exhibition experience. Works in the exhibition will include a variety of styles and media, reflecting the richness of the Art Department. This vibrant exhibition offers a chance to see some of Denver’s best and brightest emerging art and design talent.

The MSU Denver Student Exhibition is open now through Nov. 28.
