The APIDA Alliance also established a Microsoft Teams group: @APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Faculty and Staff Alliance. Use the code “yt3s4km” to join directly.

The group was initiated by Courtney Matsumoto, program coordinator, Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute, in 2019 and officially kicked off last spring as the Denver Asian/Pacific Islander Faculty and Staff Alliance. The pan-ethnic name change reflects efforts to be more inclusive.

“I have worked at MSU Denver since 2015 and over the years have become involved in several groups that represent the unique diversity of our institution,” Matsumoto said. “These groups work tirelessly to support our underrepresented students, staff and faculty across the University. However, as time went on, I noticed not all groups were being honored or represented – one of these being a group, support network or alliance for those who identify as APIDA.”

The APIDA Alliance is also recruiting leaders who will to meet regularly to help establish the group’s mission, vision, goals, bylaws, etc. The leaders also will help with communication, recruitment, event planning and completing projects. Anyone interested should contact Matsumoto.

Stay tuned for an APIDA Alliance website to launch by the end of the fall semester.
