Celebrate Chinese New Year on Jan. 29

Enjoy cultural activities, fun and food to welcome the Year of the Rat.

You are invited to join the campus community to celebrate Chinese New Year. Also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, the event is celebrated in many countries around the world and right here at MSU Denver.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Chinese New Year festivities usually begin on New Year’s Eve and end on the Lantern Festival, spanning 15 days through the middle of January. Celebrations typically include ceremonies honoring ancestors, cultural customs and rituals that bring good luck, health, fortune, wealth, prosperity and happiness. The MSU Denver celebration will include paper cutting, Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, dumpling making, a catered lunch and more. 

This year in the Chinese zodiac is the Year of the Rat, the first of all the zodiac animals. In Chinese culture, rats are viewed as highly intelligent, and this year will be extraordinary for people born in 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2008.

This event is free and open to the public. Sponsors include the MSU Denver Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and the Confucius Institute at the Community College of Denver. We hope to see you there!
