First VP/COO candidate to visit campus Monday

Larry Sampler will meet with University leaders and participate in two open forums.

Larry Sampler, the first candidate identified in the search for Metropolitan State University of Denver’s new vice president and chief operating officer, will visit campus Monday. Throughout the day, Sampler will participate in a series of meetings with search-committee members, deans, directors and senior leadership.

Faculty and staff members are welcome to participate in the following open forums to learn more about Sampler’s professional experience and his vision for the position and the University at large. Both forums will be held in the Jordan Student Success Building, Suite 440A.

Sampler is president of the One Earth Future Foundation in Broomfield, an organization “seeking to promote peace through networked governance in conflicted countries around the world.” He was previously deputy assistant administrator and assistant administrator for the Office of Afghanistan & Pakistan Affairs at the U.S. Agency for International Development, reporting directly to the U.S. secretary of state. He served for 16 years on active and reserve duty in the U.S. Army Special Forces before accepting an honorable discharge and a State Department assignment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

Sampler holds a Bachelor of Science in applied physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he also completed graduate studies in technology and science policy. He later earned a Master of Arts in international diplomacy from Norwich University.
