Freedom of Speech & Academic Freedom

The Thursday Dialogues Program event will cover complexities of free speech, academic freedom and their implications at MSU Denver and other institutions.

The Dialogues Program is hosting the hybrid event Freedom of Speech & Academic Freedom on Thursday from 2-3:30 p.m. The event will begin with a presentation by Katia Campbell, Ph.D., associate professor of Communication Studies, and Michael Benitez, Ph.D., vice president for Diversity and Inclusion, on the complexities of free speech and academic freedom and their implications, including at Metropolitan State University of Denver and other higher-education institutions. Campbell and Benitez will also explore bias, or when speech turns threatening and abusive, especially for people with minoritized identities, and how to respond to bias within a campus community.
