Celebrate the achievements of MSU Denver Roadrunners.

In addition to Faculty Citings, the Early Bird shines a spotlight each month on the accomplishments of Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty and staff members and partners.

As our campus community continues to navigate teaching, learning and operating online to reduce the spread of Covid-19, it’s great to be reminded of the true impact of MSU Denver students and faculty and staff members.

Fantastic faculty

Roadrunner luminary Ron Miles, musician in residence, Jazz Studies, captivated audiences with his 1990 album “Witness.” The New York Times recently reminisced on the musical genius in the article “Five minutes that will make you love the trumpet.” We are eternally grateful to have such an inspiring educator mentoring Roadrunners. Shine on, Ron!

Keith Fevurly, J.D., lecturer of Finance, continues to offer expert insight in and outside the classroom. Most recently, Fevurly weighed in with valuable commentary for MoneyGeek in “Managing Elderly Parents’ Finances,” in which he offers advice on difficult topics such as how adult children of senior loved ones know when to gain legal control over their parents’ assets. Congratulations and thanks for being such an excellent representative of MSU Denver.

Inspiring institution

U.S. News and World Report has again named MSU Denver one of the most innovative regional universities in the West. MSU Denver tied for third place with three California institutions: California Baptist University, Cal State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and Cal State University, Fullerton. Curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology and facilities were evaluated for innovative ranking. What a great distinction for a great university!

MSU Denver also made the honor roll of Washington Monthly’s America’s Best Colleges for Student Voting. With the rise of youth voters, Washington Monthly sought to recognize universities whose administrations actively support student-voting organizers. To land a spot on this year’s Washington Monthly honor roll, institutions had to show repeated commitment to increasing student voting. Among several qualification requirements, MSU Denver made the University’s 2016 and 2018 National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement data publicly available. Thank you, Roadrunners, for your commitment to community and civic duty.
