The Office of Faculty Affairs announces wellness event and Leaders’ Academy

The new programs are designed to support supervisors and current/prospective faculty leaders.

Wellness Conversation

As part of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Roadrunners Safe Return wellness initiative, Bill Henry, Ph.D., vice provost for Faculty Affairs, and Richard Miccio, clinical outreach specialist with the Health Center of Auraria, will co-facilitate a discussion on the challenges supervisors face from the return to campus.

If you are a supervisor and are concerned about the well-being of your employees, please join the conversation to connect with colleagues and share thoughts, experiences and support. Human Resources professionals and representatives of University leadership will discuss strategies for easing the return, and the RSR Wellness Committee encourages all supervisors to share their strategies for supporting employees.

To facilitate conversation, attendees are encouraged to attend in person. Please RSVP by Sept. 29.

Leaders’ Academy

The Office of Faculty Affairs is also launching the Leaders’ Academy, a program designed to provide professional development, training and support for new (and not-so-new) department chairs, directors, deans and associate deans and for anyone else who may be interested in someday pursuing a position in academic leadership.

This program will involve six sessions spread across the academic year. The program will draw on the expertise of professional staff across the University to address topics such as program evaluation, enrollment management, fundraising, developing a graduate program and more.

While participants are encouraged to attend all sessions (particularly if they are new to their leadership role), they are also welcome to drop into sessions that are of special interest.

In addition to supporting current leaders, the program is also intended to provide future leaders with insight into the roles and responsibilities associated with leadership positions, particularly the position of department chair. As such, the program is open to any faculty member who may be interested in pursuing a leadership role in the future.
