As reported in a previous Early Bird, Banner Self-Service is being upgraded to a new version, Banner 9 Self-Service (SSB9), over the course of the next year. The first phase of this upgrade will include the General, Student and Student Registration Self-Service modules and is scheduled to be completed in early October, just in time for spring registration.
Here are some of the changes you can look forward to as part of Phase 1:
- New features
- Personal Identifiers: All users will be able to set their preferred first name, personal pronouns and gender identification.
- Plan Ahead Tool: Replacing College Scheduler, Plan Ahead is a new tool that allows students and advisors to create and save class schedules that can be referenced and reused in future registration periods.
- Student Profile: To better serve advising needs, students and advisors will be able to quickly view a complete snapshot of the student’s academic history.
- Improvements
- Centralized Resources: Related components and features have been consolidated to improve the Self-Service experience. For example, users can now update all their personal information (address, phone, etc.) within a single page.
- Modernized Design: SSB9’s menu structure and design have been retooled, making navigating to your desired functions easier than ever.
- Improved Forms: Whether it’s import/export options when entering grades or a graduation application that’s easier to fill out, improvements to SSB9 fillable forms allow for a more streamlined, user-friendly experience for students and members of faculty and staff.
The SSB9 project team has scheduled demonstrations of the upgraded system throughout September for different departments and groups within the University, including Student Orientation, Information Technology Services Client Services, Banner managers and academic advisors. ITS is excited to introduce the new interface to users and demonstrate how the new look and feel will benefit them. If you would like to join one of these demonstrations, please contact the Banner SSB9 Upgrade Team.
