Mona Hanna-Attisha, M.D., the pediatrician who exposed the Flint, Michigan water crisis, joins President Davidson for a fireside chat followed by a panel discussion.

Conversations on water access and public health are coming to the Auraria Campus in two upcoming tri-institutional events.

Mona Hanna-Attisha, M.D., will join Metropolitan State University of Denver President Janine Davidson, Ph.D., in a virtual fireside chat Sept. 28. A pediatrician, scientist, activist and author, Hanna-Attisha was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for her role in uncovering the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, and leading recovery efforts. She is a public-health champion and advocate for health and racial equity, and a frequent contributor to national media outlets, including the New York Times and Washington Post.

MSU Denver Health Institute Health Scholar students will take part in a Q&A following the fireside chat.

Additionally, “Colorado Water Issues, Local Action” will take place Sept. 30, presented by MSU Denver’s One World One Water Center.

The virtual panel will continue themes of equity and access to water from a local point of view. Panelists include Lizeth Chacon, executive director of the Colorado People’s Alliance; Tom Romero of the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law Interdisciplinary Research Institute for the Study of (in)Equality; and Alexis Woodrow, Lead Reduction Program manager for Denver Water. Jerd Smith, digital content editor of Fresh Water News, will moderate the panel.

Both events are free and open to the MSU Denver community.
