April is Earth Month, and the Auraria Sustainable Campus Program invites all members of the campus community to participate in virtual Climate Action Public Forums and share feedback on how the campus can reduce its greenhouse-gas footprint.

Register to attend an info session or create an account on the consider.it forum to provide feedback. All Auraria Campus students, staff members and faculty members who weigh in on the goal will automatically be entered to win a $50 gift card for a local restaurant.

Health, Culture and Nation-Making in National Protected Areas

Presented by the Metropolitan State University of Denver Geography Program and featuring Lindy Lunstrum, Ph.D., of Boise State University and James Stinson, Ph.D., of York University, the presentation will examine how Canadian conservation, reflecting global trends, has worked to enable nation-making on jointly cultural and biological fronts. Parks are presented as vehicles that enable cultural identification with the nation and simultaneously help build a physically healthy and economically productive national population. This case brings together the surprisingly disconnected literatures on biopolitics and (cultural-territorial) nation-making. The event is open to the public.

The benefits of teaching students how to work across disciplines in preparation for post-graduation careers are well-known. To learn more about creating exciting interdisciplinary experiences for students in the 2021-22 academic year, faculty members are invited to join the College of Health and Applied Sciences’ Interprofessional Education Committee for a pair of informal virtual Lunch and Learn events.

The events will include an overview, resources and a panel discussion that highlights the benefits of interprofessional experiences for students and overcoming barriers to implementing them.

Faculty panelists will represent the Departments of Aviation and Aerospace Science, Human Services and Counseling, Journalism and Media Production, Marketing, Nursing, Social Work and more.

The Interprofessional Education Committee will develop future activities and events to help faculty members learn about and develop more collaborative opportunities for students. This will include “matchmaking” but also developing structural suggestions for adjustments to current processes. With questions about how to become a panelist or general Interprofessional Education Committee goals, please email Jess Retrum, Ph.D., associate professor and chair, Social Work, or Terry Buxton, Ph.D., chair, Nursing.

MSU Denver Advocacy Forum on Hispanic/Latina/o/x Local and National Priorities

As a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, MSU Denver is hosting a forum to educate the community about the local and national priorities for Hispanic/Latina/o/x college students.

In collaboration with the MSU Denver Champions Program, this inaugural event will highlight what it means for MSU Denver to be an HSI as well as the HSI committee’s advocacy efforts from the 26th Annual Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday.

Join the Entrepreneurship Cohort

The Entrepreneurship Center invites MSU Denver faculty members to participate in a cohort focused on infusing entrepreneurship principles and practices across the curriculum. Specifically designed for faculty members teaching in arts and sciences, public affairs, education and other fields outside the College of Business Administration, the cohort experience will allow participants to combine the specificity of their own disciplines with real-world, business-related experiential learning.

As a fellow, you can:

• Teach your students how to start their own venture.
• Incorporate entrepreneurship into your curriculum.
• Help students jump-start their business.
• Receive cash and travel rewards as fellowship requirements are met.
