Overhead image of man sitting at computer; overlay of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Information Technology Services is enabling In-Place Archiving on all MSU Denver Office 365 email accounts. In-Place Archiving is a feature in Office 365 that provides users with additional mailbox storage space by moving messages older than two years into a separate archived mailbox. This mailbox will still be fully accessible and searchable when using Microsoft Outlook, appearing as “Online Archive” in the desktop app or “In-Place Archive” on the web.

This change is being made to address problems with accounts that have been unable to receive new messages because their mailboxes were full. In-Place Archiving will help to address this issue without requiring users to manually delete or migrate their existing messages. Most MSU Denver email accounts already have In-Place Archiving enabled without any issues, so this change will also standardize the user experience.

Accounts that are not set up with In-Place Archiving will have the feature enabled tonight between 10 and midnight. If you did not receive an email last week notifying you of the change, your account is already set up with In-Place Archiving.

If you would like to access your archive folder, please check the Office 365 Email page on the ITS Knowledgebase in the “How to find emails received or sent over two years ago” section.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 303-352-7548, submit a ticket through support.msudenver.edu or email support@msudenver.edu from your MSU Denver email account.
