Metropolitan State University of Denver has hit another milestone in the Faculty Compensation Structure project. Over the past month, Human Resources has completed the job-matching and position-structure validation processes in partnership with nearly 50 faculty members, collaborating with deans and chairs across the University to fully understand each unique faculty position. These faculty members have ensured that we have job-matched each position correctly and that we have classified each position correctly by college and discipline.
This inclusive partnership gave many people a voice in the process. As a result, HR was able to incorporate necessary changes and different perspectives and is moving into the next phase feeling confident about the integrity of the work.
Throughout March, consultants from Hays Cos. will design MSU Denver’s base pay-compensation structure (i.e., market-competitive salary ranges).
How MSU Denver will use College and University Professional Association data differently in the next phase:
- Currently, MSU Denver is utilizing a percentage of the average (typically below 100%) of CUPA market data for any given Classification of Instructional Programs code. Additionally, only a small cut of CUPA data is being used.
- HR plans to utilize the full 50th percentile of the CUPA market data for each CIP code and use a much broader cut of the CUPA data so we can gather as much relevant market data as possible. This will be the basis of the base pay-compensation structure.
After the base pay-compensation structure is approved in March by the Faculty Advisory Committee, faculty members can expect to receive training in April and May. The training will be a recording that faculty members can take at their leisure with live Q&A sessions occurring via Zoom. Following training, personalized compensation statements will be developed for every faculty member and distributed prior to summer break May 20.
HR will continue to provide periodic updates throughout this project as milestones are met. The next monthly update as well as specialized communications about trainings and statements will be provided in late March.
