When Metropolitan State University of Denver became a university, the annual Grad School Day event became a valuable tool in enhancing our new identity, building awareness of our graduate programs and increasing access to affordable post-baccalaureate opportunities for Coloradans. The event has evolved over the years to include institutions and programs from across the state, and this year it returns as the Graduate Program Awareness Expo.

In addition to one-on-one advising from graduate programs across Colorado, students can look forward to a series of workshops on topics such as test preparation, essay writing and scholarships. Although the expo runs all day, the half-day format allows attendees to participate regardless of their schedule — and even 5 minutes of networking could have a life- and career-changing impact.
“Feedback (on the event) is always overwhelmingly positive,” said Max Morgan, graduate-studies outreach specialist. “Grad school is exciting, and we see attendees empowered by the knowledge formed and connections made. We always hear, ‘I had no idea about an opportunity like this before today, but I think I’m going to do this!’”
All Auraria students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the expo, and students are encouraged to preregister as a free lunch is included. Morgan also urges faculty and staff to help spread the word and encourage students to explore new educational opportunities.
“Students look to faculty and staff for support, guidance and knowledge of campus resources,” he added. “Auraria remains a word-of-mouth campus, and faculty and staff can lead the way in creating some healthy campus buzz about (our and other) graduate programs.”
