Meet the third candidate for VP for diversity and inclusion

Fernando Guzman III will visit campus Thursday to meet with faculty, staff and students.

Fernando Guzman III, Ph.D., a candidate for vice president of diversity and inclusion, will visit Metropolitan State University of Denver on Thursday.

Guzman has served as assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusive excellence at the University of Colorado Boulder Law School since 2018, before which he was director of diverse faculty and staff recruitment and retention for the University of Rhode Island from 2015-18. Prior to this, he was a consultant and senior recruiter for human resources and organizational development at Champlain College.

Guzman received a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Denver. Prior to that, he earned a master’s degree in counseling from California State University, Sacramento, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Santa Clara University. He is a member of the National Advisory Board for the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences ADVANCE Initiative and an American Psychological Association Minority Fellow.

Guzman will meet with various University groups throughout the day, and faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to attend their respective open forums during each candidate’s visit:

10-11 a.m., SSB 440A – staff

2-3 p.m., SSB 237 (CMEI) – faculty and students

4-5 p.m., SSB 440A – community members
