Meet the first candidate for VP for diversity and inclusion

Jobi Martinez will visit campus Tuesday to meet with faculty, staff and students.

Jobi Martinez, Ph.D., the first of four candidates for vice president of diversity and inclusion, will visit Metropolitan State University of Denver on Tuesday.

Martinez serves as the president’s excellence in diversity and inclusion postdoctoral fellow and visiting special assistant for the University of Houston-Downtown, organizing a strategic diversity-and-inclusion plan, enhancing faculty outreach and engagement initiatives, and identifying promising recruitment, retention and student-engagement initiatives. She has also served as a consultant and affiliate faculty member with the University of Maryland Center for Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education since 2017.

Martinez holds a doctorate in media and communication from Texas Tech University, where she also earned a master’s degree in public administration and bachelor’s degrees in public relations and Spanish. She served as the first president of the Big 12 Chapter of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and was the founding director of the Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center.

Martinez will meet with various University groups throughout the day, and faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to attend their respective open forums during each candidate’s visit:

10-11 a.m., SSB 440A – staff

2-3 p.m., SSB 237 (CMEI) – faculty and students

4-5 p.m., SSB 440A – community members
