Celebrate the music of Fred Hess
Join the Department of Music tonight in the King Center to honor Hess and support an endowed scholarship in his name.
April 18, 2019
Last October, Fred Hess, Ph.D., Metropolitan State University of Denver professor of music theory and composition, died after a courageous battle with cancer.
Hess touched the hearts of many students, colleagues, musicians and listeners. His innovations in creative music-making and improvisation profoundly influenced a generation of performers and composers, while his music lives on to chronicle the inimitable character of Hess himself: playful, genuine, complex, thought-provoking, at times sublime, at times absurd and, above all else, unpredictable.
Please join the Department of Music tonight in the King Center Concert Hall at 7:30 to enjoy Hess’ music performed by the Boulder Creative Music Ensemble, Adam Bartczak’s “Republic,” MSU Denver faculty, students and friends. Musicians include Ron Miles, Mark Harris, Glenn Nitta, Glenn Taylor, Dawn Clement, Ron Bland, Dru Heller, Dave Devine, Sam Williams, Anisha Rush, Keith Oxman, Peter Sommer, Jake Boldman, Josh Reed, Gabe Mervine, Tom Gershwin, Jooeun Pak, Patricia Surman, Marc Sabatella, Adam Bartcazk, Bron Wright, Tom Ball, Andy Wolfe, Julian Ruiz, Kathryn Dupuy, Michael Cristoph, Justin Rogers and many more.
All proceeds will benefit the Fred Hess Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund.
