Beginning April 22 and continuing through early November, the PE & Event Center facility will undergo construction and renovation work to improve ADA accessibility and enhance security for building occupants.
The project will include the complete replacement of the deteriorating gym bleachers and a renovation of the main locker rooms, which have not been updated since the 1970s and, consequently, present serious safety concerns. The project will also improve and enhance the wellness and recreation facility experience for the entire campus community, including but not limited to Athletics, the Department of Human Performance and Sport, and Campus Recreation.
To complete the project safely and on time, all first-floor locker rooms will be closed from April 22 through November; second-floor staff locker rooms will be closed from May 5 through November. Students, staff or faculty currently renting lockers in the main locker rooms for the spring semester will need to empty those lockers no later than Thursday. MSU Denver will offer partial locker-rental refunds for the remainder of the semester. To receive a refund, please go to PE 107 with your ID card. Refunds may be picked up between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. today through May 31.
Additionally, the main gymnasium area will be closed between June 23 and September so that the existing bleachers can be replaced.
Areas not affected by the construction work will generally remain open; however, construction work may periodically generate noise audible in spaces adjacent to the project areas. More updates will be issued as the project progresses to allow users to prepare accordingly.
