Do you know Roadrunners with big ideas?

Clinton Global Initiative University logoEach year, the Clinton Global Initiative University brings together more than 1,000 students to tackle issues such as education, environment, human rights, poverty and public health — and wouldn’t it be amazing to see Roadrunners join the conversation?

As a member of the CGI U Network, Metropolitan State University of Denver is encouraging students to apply for the 2019 CGI U Meeting. To be eligible, students must also submit an idea for Commitments to Action: new, specific and measurable initiatives that address pressing challenges on campus, in local communities or around the world. Selected applicants will be connected to mentors, receive project support and travel to the CGI U fall 2019 conference.

“This is an awesome opportunity for students who have a civic-engagement mindset to get involved with an initiative that ‘focuses on the distinct potential that young people and higher educational institutions have to make a difference on their campuses and around the world,’” said Steve Willich, director of the LGBTQ Student Resource Center and MSU Denver CGI U Advisory Board member.

Since 2008, more than 10,000 students around the world have made Commitments to Action, and more than $3 million in funding has been awarded to commitment-makers through the CGI U platform, including the University Network, Innovation Fund, Commitments Challenge and Resolution Project.

“Although we will send information directly to students as well, the most effective way of encouraging students to apply for CGI U is through faculty and staff,” said Tim Meeks, civic-engagement program manager. “If you know students who could be vital voices in these critical conversations, urge them to apply.”

Students may submit an application to the MSU Denver CGI U Advisory Board for review and subsequent submission to CGI U. Applications are due by March 22. Find more submission information online and direct specific questions to Meeks.
