The Microaggressions Awareness Campaign will facilitate a series of professional-development sessions next semester, giving attendees the tools and resources to address microaggressions as they happen by bringing awareness to our own biases.
Through these sessions, you and your colleagues will gain a better understanding of who you are, what you each bring to the table and how to use your strengths to improve interactions and tackle difficult situations. Participants will reflect on their own identities as well as learn about how we often make subconscious assumptions about others’ identities, which can affect the outcome of our exchanges.
If you are interested in hosting a session in your department, please contact Tisha Townsend at ttownse6@msudenver.edu now to begin the process.
On April 11, the Center for Equity and Student Achievement will also host a webinar, “Overcome Unconscious Bias and Racial Tension: Break Down Barriers to Equity and Inclusion for Students, Faculty and Administration” from noon-1:30 p.m. in JSSB 400. Lunch will be provided.
This training will help participants understand unconscious bias so they can break down barriers and racial tension on campus. Using structured self-reflection and discussion, we will explore various types of bias. Attendees will also learn how to help others overcome barriers caused by unconscious bias by examining systems, processes and individual dynamics. By the end of the webinar, participants should be able to create a plan to remove bias within processes, systems and individual interactions.
