Terry Bower accepts interim AVP position

Bower will head the office of Innovative and Lifelong Learning.

Terry Bower has accepted the position of interim associate vice president of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Innovative and Lifelong Learning office. She replaces Nancy Sayre, who is working on special projects for I&LL and participating in a Fulbright Program in Spain during the spring 2020 semester.

“Terry brings a wealth of experience in developing and implementing innovative programming across the higher-education landscape and a collaborative approach to her work,” said Provost Vicki Golich, Ph.D. “She is also well-connected in the Denver community, which will help MSU Denver develop the kinds of upskilling certificates so desperately needed in the region’s workforce.”

Bower has over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, program design and development, communications, and business development, with the majority of her work in higher education. Prior to joining MSU Denver, she served as assistant dean of Marketing and Enrollment at the University of Denver and as director of the Denver Education Compact, a cradle-to-career initiative launched by Mayor Michael B. Hancock to improve educational outcomes for Denver youth.

Before joining MSU Denver, Bower was communications director at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, vice president of market research at global strategic-communications firm Bernard Hodes Group and program development manager at the George Washington University Center for Professional Development, where she developed the university’s first Arabic interpretation and translation program after 9/11.

As a consultant, Bower has had clients including the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education, the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the USDA Graduate School. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Emory University.
