Three graduates in blue robes walking off stageOver the past two years, the Hispanic-Serving Institution Implementation Team has been researching and implementing strategies identified in the Connecting the Dots report on increasing the recruitment, persistence and degree completion of Hispanic students and all students. In collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion – and as part of a broader effort to improve retention and graduation of all students – the HSI Implementation Team is now adding Student Success Teams focused on specific populations.

The teams will include:

  • Hispanic and Latinx Student Success Team (continued)
  • Black & African American Student Success Team
  • Asian & Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Student Success Team
  • Indigenous, American Indian & Alaskan Native Student Success Team
  • Low-income Student Success Team

Team members will help identify national and regional research, best practices, data trends and issues that affect the identified student population while also studying the particular student population at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Members will be required to meet monthly to discuss research and data and to attend presentations and trainings as needed. Additionally, every six weeks, all Student Success Teams will meet as a larger group to look at comparisons and contrasts across populations. These combined efforts will also help determine recommendations to encourage the recruitment, enrollment, retention, graduation and career success of MSU Denver students.

If you would like to participate on a Student Success Team, please visit the Student Success Teams webpage and click on the “Sign Up for a Team” tab to complete the application form.

The first large group meeting will be scheduled in April or May.

If you have questions, please contact Will Simpkins, Ph.D., vice president for Student Affairs, at wsimpkin@msudenver.edu.
