Have you heard about microaggressions? Do you want to take your understanding of them to the next level?
The Microaggressions Awareness Campaign began as a way to educate faculty and staff about the impacts of identity, power and privilege, and to the difference between intent and impact. The team that developed this series wanted to help their MSU Denver colleagues develop an action plan to address and combat the impact of microaggressions and to continue the conversation around how to improve interactions with colleagues and students.
Through this professional development, you will be given tools and resources to address microaggressions as they happen by bringing awareness to our own biases. You will gain a better understanding of who you are, what you bring to the table and how to use your strengths to improve interactions and tackle difficult situations. We will also reflect on our own identities as well as on how we often make subconscious assumptions about others’ identities — which can affect the outcome of our exchanges.
If you are interested in attending an upcoming development training, please click the link below. If you are interested in hosting this training in your own department, email Tisha Townsend. We will collaborate with the needs of your department by using a series of activities and discussion that will be create a better understanding of what microaggressions are and how they show up in your interactions.
