Roadrunner-turned-Army top brass to speak on leadership

Lt. Gen. Laura Richardson to be featured in free Women’s History Month event March 4.

On Oct. 16, Lt. Gen. Laura J. Richardson became the first woman to lead the U.S. Army Forces Command, overseeing about 96,000 civilians and 776,000 soldiers. On March 4, the Metropolitan State University of Denver alumna will return to metro Denver to headline Women’s History in the Making, an event celebrating National Women’s History Month and the City of Northglenn’s 50^th anniversary. The Northglenn native will speak on leadership and her rise through the ranks of the U.S. Army, and the entire MSU Denver community is encouraged to attend.

Richardson’s MSU Denver education helped launch her into a successful and decorated military career. Upon graduation, she was commissioned a second lieutenant of aviation and stationed in South Korea with the 17th Aviation Brigade. After serving in various roles at Fort Hood, Fort Leavenworth and Fort Campbell, Richardson served as the military aide to Vice President Al Gore. She was further deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was later assigned to the Army G-3/5/7 in the Pentagon, where she served as deputy director, then director, for the Army’s Transformation Office. She later attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and served as garrison commander of Fort McNair and Fort Myer and as the Army’s liaison officer to the U.S. Senate.
