Barb Weiske, chief executive officer of the Auraria Higher Education Center, announced at the organization’s meeting Wednesday that she will retire at the end of June. The AHEC board will launch a search next week to fill the position, which Weiske has held since 2009.
Weiske’s career in higher education has spanned more than 30 years. Prior to serving as AHEC CEO, she was the organization’s vice president for operations, deputy executive vice president for administration and director of the Student & Auxiliary Services Division.
In a letter to the AHEC Board of Directors, Weiske called the Auraria campus “a special place that offers an enormous opportunity for change and growth.”
“I have truly reveled in being part of moving this one-of-a-kind campus forward and ensuring all aspects of its long-term sustainability,” Weiske wrote. “Likewise, I have enjoyed the respect and partnership with an extraordinary group of executive leaders of the three institutions that AHEC so honorably serves.”
