Feeding the need for service
A campus service group calls for participants to help feed those in need – and build community in the process.

For Roadrunners United in Service, the opportunity to give back is the gift that keeps giving. The group has already made an impact with its initial service drive, donating six bags of clothing, one box of school supplies and more than 200 food items to the Student Academic Success Center and the Fostering Success Program.
Now, the group members are calling for fellow philanthropic Roadrunners to join them on April 28 and help another worthy cause – Food For Thought. This organization packs groceries delivered to schools to help disadvantaged families have food to eat over the weekend.
“It’s more than a donation – it’s the opportunity to come together as a group,” said Roadrunners United in Service member Gini Mennenga, also of Alumni Relations and Giving.
As a follow-up to the campus-wide Day of Giving, participants will meet at the Colfax viaduct across from the Regency Athletic Complex where they’ll pack groceries for Food for Thought. The morning event runs from 7:30-10 a.m.; coffee and bagels will be provided.
Along with Roadrunners United in Service founders Erica Buckland (Academic and Student Affairs), Ryan Campbell (Civic Engagement Program) and Damen Glover (Facilities Planning), Mennenga sees the chance to continue building community, one act of service at a time.
“You really get to see the collective impact of what we’re doing,” she said. “And even more so, it’s the chance to make friends while supporting a great cause.”
