R is for Respect

Enjoy our weekly highlight of the letters in CADRE; this week is respect, as a critical component of transformative education.

As we’ve previously published, each letter of the CADRE acronym reminds us of a shared, core value. Together, they represent the fundamental tenets of the University’s mission – and what it means to be part of the Roadrunner community.

MSU Denver boldly seeks a climate of mutual respect and reflection, supporting different beliefs and perspectives, promoting the open exchange of ideas.

Having respect is more than tolerance. It’s valuing the contribution of others, and is fundamental to a transformative education. And although we may disagree, those intersections of disagreement become learning opportunities when we have a solid foundation of shared esteem.

Because we respect everyone, communicate effectively, promote transparency, embrace dialogue, cultivate trust and respect governance structures, we are consistently able to make decisions with a student-first mentality.
