General Studies renovation forums announced

Sessions will revisit the program mission and determine how it fits into University Learning Outcomes.

After one round of assessment on the 2012 General Studies program, faculty from a variety of University-wide curriculum and assessment committees have identified room for improvement in the General Studies student-learning outcomes and assessment process.

The faculty-led General Studies Renovation Task Force (GRT) has been charged with discussing improvements to the program using best practices and diverse voices. The GRT includes faculty members who plan to lead forums and discussions with all interested faculty, students, staff and administrators. The ultimate goal is to have a clear vision for the General Studies program, with an inspiring purpose for students and faculty.

The first phase of forums will revisit the mission of the General Studies program as a whole and determine how it fits into University Learning Outcomes. Interested faculty members are invited to attend one of three forums on this topic:

Friday, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., King Center, Room 421

Oct. 22, 12:30-1:45 p.m., Central Classroom, Room 103

Oct. 23, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Central Classroom, Room 103

These dates were also announced in the Faculty Senate.

Times for future forums on other related topics will be announced on the General Studies webpage and at upcoming Senate meetings. The website also includes the full plan and a detailed motivation for renovation. A short survey on the “Get Involved” tab can connect those interested with more opportunities for involvement.
