MSU Denver employees in student veterans workshopMetropolitan State University of Denver’s Center for Teaching, Learning and Design is partnering with Veteran and Military Services to better serve student veterans.

Supporting Veteran & Military Students: A Workshop for Faculty/Staff can help those without military experience learn more about military culture and the transition issues faced by many student veterans. The workshop will provide practical tips on how to enhance student veterans’ classroom and campus experiences, and participants will receive curriculum tips and general-resource information to share with their colleagues. The goal is to help develop a broader campus culture of understanding and support for students who have served.

Past workshop participants have noted that simply hearing students’ stories and reflections about their military service was valuable. They also appreciated learning about campus resources available to student veterans, such as accommodations and counseling, and the intricacies of education benefits for student vets.

“The most-loved part of our training is always the panel of veteran students,” said Lauren Sullivan, director of Veteran and Military Student Services. “Hearing from them firsthand about their experiences at MSU Denver, and about their transition from the military to student life, can really drive home their unique experiences to our staff and faculty.”

Space is limited, and advance registration is required. See the CTLD events calendar for more information.
