Get pro tips for developing a great portfolio

Workshop series helps faculty develop and submit high-quality work for review.

Compiling a well-developed, cumulative portfolio that showcases your value and effectiveness as an educator can seem daunting. It’s a process that can be murky even for seasoned veterans. Luckily, help is on the way.

The Center for Teaching, Learning and Design (formerly the Center for Faculty Excellence), in conjunction with Academic and Student Affairs, is offering a series of workshops to help faculty members develop and submit top-notch portfolios for review.

Workshops will include a detailed overview of the evaluation process led by Bill Henry, Ph.D., associate vice president for Faculty Affairs, giving participants a solid foundation. Other experienced faculty members will share their perspectives and tips as well, and several former portfolio reviewers will offer insights on what reviewers look for in a successful submission. Additionally, Meredith Flynn, Ph.D., associate director for the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design, will offer support on how to best utilize Digital Measures during the submission process.

Faculty who attended last year’s workshops had great feedback, which helped in the development of a new workshop devoted exclusively to writing the narratives that accompany Year 2, Year 3, Tenure, Promotion and Category II portfolio reviews.

Elizabeth Kleinfeld, Ph.D., director of the Writing Center, and Flynn will co-lead this interactive narrative-writing workshop to offer tips, strategies, hacks and best practices for writing compelling narrative copy.
