Updating MSU Denver’s technology foundation

Banner is upgrading to a modern solution that streamlines various processes across the University.

Metropolitan State University of Denver is excited to announce that Banner – our enterprise resource-planning system – is upgrading from version 8 to Banner 9.

Banner 9 will provide a modernized, mobile-responsive interface with improved navigation and accessibility features as well as a vastly improved technical infrastructure to help streamline critical business processes.

While substantial behind-the-scenes work has been ongoing for the past year, the MSU Denver community will soon see Banner 9 in a dedicated test environment. Beginning on June 15, module testing will kick off, while upgrades to various Banner modules and auxiliary systems will take place in a series of overlapping project phases. All project work is scheduled for completion no later than Dec. 15, prior to the end of support for the Banner 8 platform.

All current Banner 8 services will remain available until they have been successfully implemented in the Banner 9 environment, and any Banner 8 feature upgrades that are already in progress will be completed as planned. Banner 8 “break/fix” support will remain available until Banner 8 is decommissioned. However, due to the staff commitment required to complete this upgrade, new Banner 8 feature requests can no longer be accepted. 

To meet the project deadline, simplify future upgrades and system management and offer future platform flexibility, Banner 9 module customizations will be minimized. ITS will work closely with module owners to ensure that required functionality is available in Banner 9.

Large-scale technology projects such as this can succeed only with the support of campus users, working closely with Banner module owners and power users throughout this effort.
