Cecily Cullen, managing director and curator of MSU Denver’s Center for Visual Art (CVA), will receive the Leadership Arts Alumni Network: Cultural Leadership Award from the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts in March.
The award recognizes graduates from the committee’s Leadership Arts program who have made an impact on arts and culture in Colorado.
“I’m really honored — they’re an organization I really admire and they do a lot of important work in the area,” Cullen said.
Leadership Arts is a nine-month program designed to train people to participate on the boards of arts organizations.
Cullen completed the program in 2011 to help develop the CVA’s advisory board.
“For me, it’s been a great learning ground to develop our board,” Cullen said. “Even though I went through as a student, I learned how to build a board form the other side. It’s a great resource.”
The strategy paid off. Five of the CVA’s current advisory board members participated in the Leadership Arts program.
Cullen will be honored at the committee’s annual awards luncheon on March 13 at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Cullen was nominated for the award by Stephanie Grilli, vice chair of the CVA Advisory Board.
