basketball playersThe MSU Denver Department of Athletics is looking for University leaders to serve as team mentors.

Qualified applicants will be matched with a specific Roadrunners Athletics team based on fit and mutual interest. The program is open to all University employees.

“We’re looking for people who have some affinity for athletics — you don’t have to play the sport — but you can choose the team you’d like to participate with,” says Shawn Worthy, professor of human services and MSU Denver NCAA faculty athletic representative. “And we’re looking for people who want to be involved on a deeper level while connecting student-athletes with resources they may need across campus.”

Mentors will be expected to attend various practices, games, meetings and team social events on a rotating and regular basis. Mentors also will serve as advocates and ambassadors for the team’s student-athletes throughout the MSU Denver community.

To apply, please visit this webpage.

Applications must be submitted by Feb. 15.

“I’ve mentored student-athletes over the past few years and I have met some amazing young people in our athletics program,” Worthy says. “It is an honor to get to know them and support them as well as see the vast amount of work they do on behalf of the institution.”

Please contact Worthy at worthys@msudenver.edu with any questions.
