Dear Roadrunners:
It is my pleasure to share with you that I have approved an additional holiday closure for the Thanksgiving holiday/fall break. Since Gov. Hickenlooper also recently announced the approval of an additional holiday during that week, MSU Denver will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 24, 2017. I appreciate how hard our faculty and staff have worked this past year through my leadership transition and want to thank each of you for your contributions to the University's successes. Please enjoy the extended time with your family, friends and loved ones.
Given the numerous restraints and demands on our financial resources, the Compensation Subcommittee of the Budget Task Force brought to the table several non-salary compensation-related recommendations for the BTF and university leadership to consider. One of these recommendations was to look at expanding holiday or other paid time off benefits. We will continue to evaluate these types of options that can contribute to more work-life balance but also do not disrupt the experience and service we provide to our students.
With that in mind, I am also happy to announce that the Friday after Thanksgiving will be added to the official university holiday calendar moving forward. Having this day included as part of the holiday calendar will allow individuals and departments to plan accordingly and I believe is an important acknowledgement of the University's desire for employees to have time away from work to recharge before heading into the final stretch of the fall semester.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving break!
Sincerely,
Janine Davidson, Ph.D.
President
