Michelle Lucero, was named an “Outstanding Woman in Business” in the law category by the Denver Business Journal on Friday

“I love what I do every day,” Lucero told the Journal. “I get to work for this amazing organization with a rock-star team. It’s a huge accomplishment just to be here at this moment.”

Lucero serves as chief administrative officer and general counsel for Children’s Hospital Colorado, where she is responsible for leading Children’s Colorado’s legal-affairs (including all contract and legal matters), corporate-compliance, information-security and risk-management teams.

Lucero was elected chair of the MSU Denver Board of Trustees in February 2014 and led the search for the replacement of President Stephen Jordan, Janine Davidson. Her personal story is even more remarkable: She was one of 11 children, growing up in Ignacio, Colo., and was the only one of her siblings to earn a college degree. And she credits her mother for her work ethic and ability to navigate adversity in her early career as a Latina woman in the legal field.

This was the Denver Business Journal’s 19th annual Outstanding Women in Business awards. MSU Denver was represented not only by Lucero; an alumna, Lisa Cutter of Cutter Communications was one of five judges who dedicated an enormous amount of time to reviewing and scoring the nominations.
