Yellow Ribbon Program logoYear after year, Metropolitan State University of Denver is ranked as one of the top colleges in the country for military and veteran students. To ensure that MSU Denver continues to be at the forefront of military and veteran support, the University Registrar, University Advancement and the Office of the Provost have joined forces and are taking the necessary steps to become Yellow Ribbon Certified.

The Yellow Ribbon Program makes additional funds available for a veteran’s education without an additional charge to his or her G.I. Bill entitlement. As a public institution, Post 9/11 veterans and their dependents at MSU Denver are eligible to receive 100 percent coverage and housing if they are at the eligible rate; however, actual tuition and fees may exceed these amounts if they are attending as a nonresident student. The Yellow Ribbon Program bridges this gap in benefits, ensuring that our students are able to complete their education and graduate from MSU Denver on time.

To become Yellow Ribbon Certified in time for the 2017-18 academic year, development officers and two student callers – both of whom are veterans and Post 9/11 eligible – spent the last two weeks reaching out to the MSU Denver community, asking them to back this new initiative. In true University spirit, our fellow Roadrunners supported this campaign in an amazing way. To date, the Yellow Ribbon Campaign has raised $2,500, which Veteran Affairs will match dollar for dollar, bringing the initial campaign to a total of $5,000! With these funds, MSU Denver will be able to help three students fulfill their dreams of a college education.

Fundraising for the Yellow Ribbon Campaign does not stop with initial certification. Yellow Ribbon certification is MSU Denver’s long-term commitment to supporting student veterans in their goal to earn a degree. Memorial Day is Monday, and there is no better way to show your appreciation to the service men and women of MSU Denver than to ensure that they are able to complete their college education.
