The Traditional Nursing Program received reaccreditation, while Honors students won awards at regional conferences.

Traditional Nursing Program

The Traditional Nursing Program received full approval from the Colorado Board of Nursing recently after phase IV of the four-phase process was accepted.

“This was the last step in the approval process with the Board for this program that included many reports and state board meetings over the past eight years,” said Linda Stroup, chair and professor of the Nursing Department.

To remain approved, the program had to maintain a 75-percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses. National accreditation requires the program to stay at or above the national average for passing the exam, which is 83 percent. Last spring, an official report revealed MSU Denver’s first group of traditional nursing graduates achieved a 96-percent pass rate.

Honors students awards

The Western Regional Honors Council is a professional organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of undergraduate honors education. Five Honors students won second place prizes for their presentations.

Chandra Lowrance won second place at the Western Regional Honors Council Conference for her poster presentation “Determination of the Entropy Change During the Process of Clathrin-Mediated Endocytosis in Drosophila Melanogaster by Computational Modeling.”

Briana Simmons, Brittney Finley, Sean Nogrady and Michael Brown won second place at the Rocky Mountain Honors Council Symposium for their group presentation.
