President Jordan to be honored by Colorado Senate and House

Legislators will gather to pay homage to the man who became a familiar face as he championed higher education for all.

President Stephen M. Jordan – his legacy and commitment to higher education – will be honored in the Colorado Senate and House the morning of Wednesday, April 19.

Since taking the helm in 2005, he has put the University on the path to becoming the preeminent public urban university in the nation. Through his 12 years of service, he collaborated with the Colorado Legislature on various occasions to achieve many accomplishments. A constant presence at the state Capitol, Jordan has – often through the sheer force of his personality – put MSU Denver on the legislative map.

In 2013, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed new legislation confirming special tuition rates for undocumented students at the Auraria Campus precisely because MSU Denver had pioneered such change a year earlier. Additionally, MSU Denver achieved university status, launched its first master’s degree programs, and many programs were developed through public-private partnerships – such as the Aerospace and Engineering Sciences building that was supported through the Capitol Development committee. More importantly, with support and commitment from the Colorado legislature, Jordan worked to ensure ALL Colorado students had access to a higher education – and would continue to have access.
