The boot camp that helps us serve our veteran students
A recent workshop helped faculty and staff better understand veterans’ experiences as they become MSU Denver students.

The Center for Faculty Excellence and the Office of Veteran and Military Student Services recently held a workshop to help faculty and staff better understand the experience of veteran students as they transition from military to civilian life, including being an MSU Denver student.
This is the second year the half-day workshop has been offered, covering topics such as transition to campus, best practices for faculty and staff, disability services, best practices for accommodations, and mental health services on campus and in the community. The event concluded with a veteran-student panel so faculty and staff could ask relevant questions about their needs and learn about stereotypes.
“The most beneficial tool that attendees reported gaining is greater awareness of the many resources available around campus for veteran students,” said Lauren Sullivan, MSU Denver Veteran and Military Student Services manager. “We are happy to see faculty and staff express strong interest in supporting our veteran students.”
MSU Denver currently has more than 1,600 veteran and military students on campus, and this number is expected to increase as a larger number of service men and women exit the military.

The Office of Veteran and Military Student Services is accepting names of faculty and staff who would like to participate in future workshop events.
