Our faculty, students and programs: publishing, winning, getting special accreditation

Accomplished faculty and students publish a paper and take 2nd in a competition; Sport Management receives accreditation.

Paper accepted

The paper “Women’s empowerment and economic development: the cases of Bangladesh and Kenya” by Economics professor Kishore G. Kulkarni and alumna Dawn Gocio (B.A. economics ’16) was recently published in the International Journal of Education Economics and Development. IJEED is a peer-reviewed journal that primarily publishes papers that promote the advancement of education economics at all levels. Its papers are meant to inform the links between education and the development of individuals, societies and economies.

Second place

Finance students Cameron Loveless and Ryan Gordanier and alumni Ryan Jones (B.S. finance ’16) and Leo Barth (B.S. finance ’16) earned second place in the eighth annual local Chartered Financial Analyst Institute Research Challenge at the University Club of Denver. The challenge is a competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Student teams research and analyze a publicly traded company and must write a research report with a recommendation to buy, sell or hold. Teams may be asked to defend their analyses at presentations in front of local industry professionals.

The only one in Colorado

Our Sport Management degree program was recently granted specialized accreditation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation. COSMA is a specialized accrediting body whose purpose is to promote and recognize excellence in sport management education worldwide. MSU Denver’s program is the only one in Colorado and one of only 32 bachelor’s degree programs nationwide to achieve this accreditation, which is valid for seven years.
