Part 2 - It’s coming so get ready for a new telephone system

ITS conducting pilot test with Microsoft Skype for Business; also testing new telephones and headsets

To fully evaluate the viability of implementing Microsoft Skype for Business (S4B) Universitywide, the ITS department is currently conducting a pilot test. As part of the pilot, ITS staff are testing S4B with various types of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phones/headsets to determine which type will best meet the University’s needs. So far, ITS has learned S4B has a built-in directory, voicemail integrated with email, conferencing features and the convenience of self-configuration of features. S4B also has improved call quality.

After an appropriate telecommunications solution has been determined, ITS will distribute VoIP phones/headsets to all University departments in planned phases. All departments will be contacted within the coming weeks. Because of this change, new telephone numbers will be assigned to replace most existing phone numbers. You will be contacted prior to receiving your new telephone and telephone number.
